“SBF” & Puff Piece(s)
Immutable Type’s mission is to Restore trusted journalism via blockchain ledgers and decentralized community ownership.
One of the biggest pushbacks I expected when demonstrating Immutable Type to friends within the web3 industry was a disbelief in the existence of a problem to solve, meaning untrustworthy media created a market opportunity for more trustworthy media. To my surprise, however, everyone gets it and waves me off during my problem statement. We’re clearly in a media environment that could be … improved, and that’s good and bad news.
The media’s handling of the SBF x FTX x FTT story has only driven home the need to build web3 tools for journalists and the communities they serve. To be honest, I find the whole experience to be quite eerie how the U.S. media and government officials are softening the narrative of what has happened during this collapse.
I have decided to mint an NFT to commemorate the headline: How Sam Bankman-Fried’s Crypto Empire Collapsed. The AI prompt included the art movement, Baroque. The Headliners Collections is, if anything, a demonstration of why we should commit journalism as immutable records of what was said and who said it, or wrote it, or published it. History is rewritten over and over to the interests of those who have the power to rewrite it. One is not able to rewrite the blockchain, however, so there’s no rewriting this narrative. The media is being soft on SBF. Why?
