Elon is Headliner # 3

We’re minting Headliner #3 to mark the experience we are all having with the Twitter and the Elon Musk saga.

Immutable Type’s mission is to restore trusted journalism via blockchain ledgers and decentralized community ownership.

I did a pitch this week of Immutable Type for a group that is known to be closely tied to Elon’s circle, and I used this AI images as part of the demonstration. Little did I know that he would be soliciting feedback about his future leadership of Twitter days later.

The Twitter Files are one of the biggest stories of the year, yet it’s gaining little press coverage outside social media. Wrapped around the Twitter Files data dump is the story of Twitter itself, and it’s alleged suppression of information, which is wrapped within Elon’s public management of Twitter policies for employees and account holders. In the simplest terms, we’re watching a (mad?) scientist at work, and we have no idea how it’s going to end.

The below headline was pretty unfair at the time it was published in my opinion. Elon simply executed a common strategy to reduce headcount and give the remaining employees agency over their careers and how they spend their time. These folks did not quit in protest, so much as they were offered severance and accepted severance rather than participate in the new management’s new workplace policies. This happens all the time, everyday, and PE firms are far more brutal in their actions when executing this same strategy. The headline implies something errant, which is why we’re minting it as an NFT, because it’s a notable headline of 2022, which should be examined for its reliability.

We chose “Pop Art” as the art movement for the AI prompt, as it seemed like the most appropriate. Elon is nearing iconic status, and if he succeeds in turning Twitter into a force which “saves free speech” in the public’s opinion, then he may well earn that distinction with other icons of the Pop Art era. It’s too early to know, but let’s check back in five or ten years and see if this NFT holds water at that time.

We’re minting 1,200 editions, one for each of the folks that chose to exit Twitter. We happen to be 12 days from the new year, so that’s simple luck that we are running this drop for 12 days to end the year. 1,200 may as well be an open edition, as it’s a LOT of NFTs to mint out. Our interest in offering so many is to give us a goal to shoot for that seems a bit outrageous at the moment.
